আমেরিকার সোশাল সার্ভিস এর একটা উদাহরণ

ঈদ এর পরদিন আমার ঘুম ভাঙলো প্রচন্ড ঘাড় আর পিঠের উপরের দিকে ব্যথা নিয়ে। তখন সকাল পাঁচটার মত বাজে। এতই ব্যথা যে আমার নিঃশ্বাস নিতেও কষ্ট হচ্ছিল। তার সাথে ছিল বাম হাতে ঝিঝি। এই সব গুলো মোটা মোটি হার্ট এটাক এর লক্ষণ বলেই জানি। বালিশ পরিবর্তন করে কিছুক্ষণ দেখলাম, যদি ব্যথা কমে অথবা নিঃশ্বাস কিছুটা উন্নতি হয় কিনা। কিন্তু কষ্ট বাড়তেই থাকলো। যখন দেখলাম হাত ঘামাতে শুরু করেছে তখন আর অপেক্ষা করাটা বুদ্ধিমান এর মত মনে হলো না। আমার স্ত্রীকে বললাম ৯১১ কল করতে। প্রথমে ৯১১ ডিস্পেচ্যার ফোন নম্বর আর বাসার ঠিকানা নিয়ে কল পাঠিয়ে দিল ই এম টি (Emergency Medical Team) এর কাছে। ওরা আমাকে কতগুলো প্রশ্ন করলো। ইতিমধ্যে এম্বুলেন্স অবশ্য রওনা দিয়ে দিয়েছে। আমাকে জিগ্যেস করলো যে দরজা লক করা কিনা। ফোন রেখে দেওয়ার এক কি দুই মিনিটের মধ্যেই বাসার মধ্যে ৬ জন মানুষ এসে হাজির। দুই জন পুলিশ, দুই জন ফায়ার ফাইটার আর দুই জন প্যারামেডিকস। প্যারামেডিকস কিছু প্রশ্ন করলো, ব্লাড প্রেশার মাপলো। লং স্টোরি শর্ট, আস্তে আস্তে একটু ভালো লাগাতে আর হাসপাতাল এ যেতে হয় নাই। আলহামদুলিল্লাহ। 

যাই হোক, এখন আসল কথায় আসা যাক, যেই জন্য এত কথা বলা। জীবন মৃত্যু আছে, যেটা চির সত্য। সেটা আমরা যে দেশেই থাকি না কেনো। হোক সেটা বাংলাদেশ বা আমেরিকা। আমি কোনো তুলনা করতে চাই না কারণ আমি জানি বাস্তবতাটা। একটা বিশাল ধনী দেশ আরেকটা সল্প মধ্যম উন্নত (নাকি মধ্যম স্বল্প উন্নত? যাই হোক)। কিন্তু যে পার্থক্যটা বিশাল করে চোখে ধরা পড়ল সেটা হলো, দেশের জনগনের প্রতি সেবা দেওয়ার অবস্তাটা। মাসে মাসে ইনকাম ট্যাক্স দেই, বছরে বছরে প্রপার্টি ট্যাক্স দেই, আর প্রত্যেক কেনা কাটায় সেলস ট্যাক্স দেই। সেটা ওখানেও দেই, এখানেও দেই। কিন্তু তার কতটুকু আমরা ফেরত পাই। অবশ্যই দেশের জন্য করতে হবে কিন্তু দেশের নামে আমার টাকা পলিটিশিয়ান আর আমলারা খাবলায়া খাবলায়া খাবে, সেটা কোনো সেন্স মেইক করে না।

ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প আর বেন কার্সেন যে আসলেই "ডেভিল বনাম ইভিল" এর লড়াই তা যেন প্রমান করতেই, বেন কার্সেন একটা বম্ব ফাটালো।  এক টেলিভিশন ইন্টারভিউ এ কার্সেন ঘোষণা দিল যে, এমেরিকান মুসলিমরা যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের প্রেসিডেন্ট হওয়ার উপযুক্ত নয়।  শুধু তাই না, ইসলাম এমনকি এমেরিকান সংবিধান এর সাথে সামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ নয়।

এই দেশে প্রেসিডেন্ট হবার কিছু ক্রাইটেরিয়া আছে, যেমন: এদেশে জন্ম হতে হবে, নিদৃষ্ট বয়সের হতে হবে ইত্যাদি ইত্যাদি।  শুধু তাই নয়, এটাও পরিষ্কার করে বলা আছে যে, প্রেসিডেন্ট পদপ্রাথ্রী কে ধর্মের পরীক্ষা করানো যাবে না।  আমি তো আমার ছেলে কে প্রায়ই বলি যে, তুমি এমেরিকার প্রেসিডেন্ট হবে, প্রথম মুসলিম এমেরিকান প্রেসিডেন্ট।  ও বেপারটা কে একটা ড্রিম হিসাবে দেখে।

যাই হোক, আমি অবশ্য এটাকে খুব বড় করে দেখতে চাচ্ছি না।  এমন অনেক কৃত্রিম বিধি নিষেধ এই দেশে ছিল আর তার সবই ভুল প্রমানিত হয়ছে: কেউ কখন ভাবেনি যে এমেরিকায় কেথলিক প্রেসিডেন্ট হতে পারে, জন এফ কেনেডি ছিল প্রথম কেথলিক প্রেসিডেন্ট। শুধু তাই নয় আইরিশ কেথলিক প্রেসিডেন্ট। কালো মানুষেরা মানুষ হিসেবে গণ্য ছিল না প্রায় দুইশ বছরের উপরে, এমনকি ভোট ও দিতে পারত না এই মাত্র কিছুদিন আগে।  এখন এমেরিকায় বারাক হুসেইন ওবামা দুই দুই বার নির্বাচিত প্রেসিডেন্ট।  এরকম আরো ভুরি ভুরি উদাহরণ আছে এই দেশেই। শুধু একটা জিনিসই এটা মনে করিয়ে দেয় যে, এমেরিকায় মুসলিম প্রেসিডেন্ট আসবে, হয়ত পঞ্চাশ বছর লাগবে, অথবা একশ বছর, কিন্তু এমেরিকায় মুসলিম প্রেসিডেন্ট হবেই ইনশাল্লাহ।

The 2016 Presidential Election: Donald Trump and my son at age one

গতকালকে আমি ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প এর একটা ভাষণ শুনছিলাম। লোকটা একটা যুদ্ধ জাহাজের ডেক এর উপর মিলিটারী ভেটেরান (প্রাক্তন সৈনিক) দের এক সমাবেশে বক্তৃতা দিচ্ছিল। সেই বক্তৃতা শুনে আমার এক পুরনো গল্পের কথা মনে পড়ে গেল।

আমার ছেলে যখন ছোট ছিল, এক দেড়  বছর এর মতো হবে, তখন ওকে শব্দ শেখানোর জন্য এক ধরনের অদ্ভূত গল্প বলতাম। অনেকটা এরকম: "ঘর থেকে বাইরে যেতে যেতে দেখি একটা ট্রেন", আমার ছেলে তখন টেনে টেনে জোরে বলে উঠত  "ট্রে.............. ন". আমি বলতে থাকতাম ......."ট্রেনে যেতে যেতে দেখি একটা গাড়ি".......তখন ও আবার জোরে বলে উঠত ......."গা ..............ড়ি". এভাবেই চলতে থাকত। "গাড়ি চলতে চলতে দেখি একটা কাক", আমার ছেলে বলে উঠত......."কা..............ক"। আমি বেছে বেছে সেই শব্দ গুলোর উপর জোর দিতাম যেগুলো ও শুনতে চাইত। এর মধ্যে দিয়ে ওকে গল্প বলা হতো আর কথা শেখানোও  হত।

যাই হোক।  ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প এর ওই বক্তৃতাটা ছিল একটা অসামঞ্জস্য এবং সস্তা ধরনের বক্তৃতা।  বিভিন্ন কথার ফাঁকে ফাঁকে সে কিছু বাক্য ঢুকিয়ে দিচ্ছিল যেগুলো এই সমাবেশে আসা লোকেরা শুনতে চায়, যেমন..."we will build the great military that nobody would dare to mess with us", "We will give veteran unlimited access to private medical facility", "We'll build a great wall at the boarder with Mexico to stop illegal immigrant", "Japanese are dumping cars and not taking our meats..I will stop this"..bla bla bla. (some of are paraphrased). আর সমাবেশের লোকজন বিশাল জোরে তালি দিতে থাকে অথবা গলা মিলাতে থাকে ওই সব বাক্যগুলোর সাথে।  খুবই কষ্ট করে বক্তৃতাটা দেখা শেষ করতে হলো।  বক্তৃতা শেষ করে সে দর্শকদের দিকে কতগুলো ক্যাপ ছুড়ে মারলো আর লোকজন ঐটা নিয়ে মহা খুশি হয়ে গেল।

আমি আমার আগের মন্তব্যে বলেছিলাম যে, ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প এর স্থায়িত্ব হওয়া উচিত স্বল্পদৈর্ঘ্য  ছবির মত ছোট কিন্তু আমাকে ভুল প্রমানিত করে ট্রাম্প এখনও "ফ্রন্ট রানার". রিক পেরি ইতিমধ্যে ছিটকে পড়েছে এই "প্রেসিডেনশিয়াল ঘোড় দৌড় " থেকে। জর্জ বুশের ছোট ভাই জেব বুশ এর অবস্তা যায় যায়।  আর দ্বিতীয় অবস্তানে এসে গেছে আরেক লোক (বেন কার্সেন) যে কিনা অবৈধ অভিবাসীদের বিরুধ্যে "Drone" ব্যবহার করতে চায়। ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প এর জনমত পোল নম্বর হলো তিরিশ এর ঘরে আরে বেন কার্সেন আছে বিশের ঘরে।  বাকি সবাই একের নামতা পরতেই ব্যস্ত।  মোদ্দা কথা হলো, এইভাবে যদি চলতে থাকে তাহলে রিপাবলিকান দলের মধ্যে বাছাই প্রতিযোগিতা হবে অনেকটা "Devil বনাম Evil"। আমি এখনো মানতে পারছি না যে এই লোক শেষ পর্যন্ত পর্যন্ত টিকে থাকবে কিন্তু এখনই কি অনেক না?

বি দ্র: আজকে CNN এ রিপাবলকান দলের দ্বিতীয় বিতর্ক অনুষ্ঠান হতে যাচ্ছে আর কিছুক্ষণের এর মধ্যে।  দেখা যাক এই ক্লাউন খেলা আর কতদিন চলতে থাকে 

Evoluation theory: in light of the Quran

In Sura Ar-Rahman, Allah tells us that he has created human from clay just like pottery.
خَلَقَ الۡاِنۡسَانَ مِنۡ صَلۡصَالٍ كَالۡفَخَّارِۙ

"He created man from clay like [that of] pottery" [55:14] Surat Ar-Raĥmān (The Beneficent)

What does it mean? Why the analogy of pottery? What differences  it would have made if Allah had given the analogy of a mold for creating human? 

In pottery, it starts with a lump of clay and slowly and gradually, through the guidance and influence of the potter, it gets the shape of the object that the potter wanted to create i.e. it has to morph into the final shape of the object through a number of stages. If you look at the object in the beginning of the creation, you would not get any idea of the final object due to its sheer dissimilarity of look and feel. Even at the center stage of creation, it would hardly look like the object of its final product. Now, if you introduce the dimension of time into it, it may take a short period of time or it may take a while to make an object, depending on the complexity of the object. So, in theory, it could be a minute, an hour, a year or a millions of years.

Allah also mentioned in another Surah that he has created all lives from water and some walks on two, some are on four legs and some slither.

"Allah has created every [living] creature from water. And of them are those that move on their bellies, and of them are those that walk on two legs, and of them are those that walk on four. Allah creates what He wills. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent." [24:45] Surat An-Nūr (The Light)

وَاللّٰهُ خَلَقَ كُلَّ دَآبَّةٍ مِّنۡ مَّآءٍ ‌ۚفَمِنۡهُمۡ مَّنۡ يَّمۡشِىۡ عَلٰى بَطۡنِهٖ‌ۚ وَمِنۡهُمۡ مَّنۡ يَّمۡشِىۡ عَلٰى رِجۡلَيۡنِ وَمِنۡهُمۡ مَّنۡ يَّمۡشِىۡ عَلٰٓى اَرۡبَعٍ‌ؕ يَخۡلُقُ اللّٰهُ مَا يَشَآءُ‌ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ قَدِيۡرٌ

Now, let's look at the evolution theory. Why should we rule that out as an outright wrong theory in the basis of "religious"? I am not saying that the Evaluation theory is right but in what sense one would declare that this theory contradicts with the will and creation of human by Allah. So, here's my point of view: regardless of the Evolution theory, we don't know how Allah has created the creation and the analogy Allah, that has given in the Quran, doesn't tell us to accept or reject Evaluation theory. We don't need to fight with the Evolution theorist to prove Allah's supreme power of creating life. Let science take its own course. Through which we may know Allah's creation in a better way OR may be not. It may help to understand the religion better OR may be not. Think about the Geocentric theory of our universe, which, once the people of religion fought tooth and nail to protect that idea (or believe) by claiming that the Quran (similar to the Christians) has told us the universe is geocentric. And, now it has been unanimously agreed by all the scholars that the interpretation of the Text was wrong. The Quran did actually told us that both Sun, Moon and Earth are orbiting in their own orbits.

He created the heavens and the earth in true (proportions): He makes the Night overlap the Day, and the Day overlap the Night: He has subjected the sun and the moon (to His law), each one follows a course for a time appointed. Is not He the Exalted in Power― He Who forgives again and again? [39:5]

خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضَ بِالۡحَقِّ‌ ۚ يُكَوِّرُ الَّيۡلَ عَلَى النَّهَارِ وَيُكَوِّرُ النَّهَارَ عَلَى الَّيۡلِ وَسَخَّرَ الشَّمۡسَ وَالۡقَمَرَ‌ؕ كُلٌّ يَّجۡرِىۡ لِاَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى‌ؕ اَلَا هُوَ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الۡغَفَّارُ‏ 

Science started with "The Eternal state" theory for Universe, then came to "The Big Bang" theory which is not just entirely opposite to its earlier claim but very similar to what is said in Quran: ,

"Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of Creation), before We clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?" [21:30]
اَوَلَمۡ يَرَ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡۤا اَنَّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضَ كَانَـتَا رَتۡقًا فَفَتَقۡنٰهُمَا‌ ؕ وَجَعَلۡنَا مِنَ الۡمَآءِ كُلَّ شَىۡءٍ حَىٍّ‌ ؕ اَفَلَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ 

"To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth; when He decreeth a matter, He saith to it: "Be"; and it is" [2:117]
بَدِيۡعُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ‌ؕ وَ اِذَا قَضٰٓى اَمۡرًا فَاِنَّمَا يَقُوۡلُ لَهٗ كُنۡ فَيَكُوۡنُ‏

Finally, I want to remind myself with the last words of the last sermon of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)-

“All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed Your message to Your people.”

Repeating from above, "....and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly...."

তিনটা গল্প। দুইটা সত্যি আর একটা মিথ্যা

বানর দিয়ে নারিকেল পাড়া

থাইল্যান্ড এর নারিকেল বাগানের মালিকেরা ছোট ছোট বানরকে প্রশিক্ষণ দেয় নারিকেল পাড়ার জন্য। মাত্র ৩ থেকে ৬ মাস এর মধ্যে এরা হয়ে উঠে এক্সপার্ট। যেহেতু বানর জন্মগত ভাবে গাছে উঠতে খুবই দক্ষ তাই এই অতিরিক্ত দক্ষতা এদেরকে করে তোলে অপ্রতিদন্ধী। কোনো মানুষ এদের সক্ষমতার আসে পাশেও আসতে পারে না। তার উপর এদের পিছনে খরচও খুবই সামান্য। কয়েকটা কলা আর রুটি ই যথেষ্ট। কোনো বেতন না, বোনাস না। কোনো ছুটি নাই, নাই কোনো হরতাল এর সমস্যা।

হাতি আর পাথর

ভারতে হাতি কে এক জায়গায় বেধে রাখার জন্য হাতি কে একটা অদ্ভূত ট্রেনিং দেওয়া হয়। হাতি যখন ছোট থাকে তখন হাতিকে একটা পাথরের সাথে দড়ি দিয়ে বেধে রাখা হয়। পাথর টা যথেষ্ট ভারী থাকে যাতে বাচ্চা হাতিটা ওটা কে টেনে নিয়ে যেতে না পারে। এই ভাবে হাতিটাকে ট্রেনিং দিতে থাকে এর মালিক।

এর পর হাতিটা যখন বড় হয়, এর মালিক একে বেঁধে রাখার জন্য একিই ভাবে একটা পাথর এর সাথে বেঁধে রাখে। কিন্তু এই সময় পাথরটা কিন্তু আর অত বড় থাকে না। বড় হাতিকে বাঁধার জন্য যত বড় পাথর দরকার, সেটা বহন করে চলাটা খুব সহজ অথবা অর্থনৈতিক ভাবে লাভজনক হবে না। যাই হোক, হাতির মালিক যখন এই বিশাল হাতিটাকে ছোট একটা পাথর দিয়ে বেঁধে রাখে, হাতিটা কিন্তু আর ওই জায়গা থেকে এক পা ও নড়ে না। ছোট কাল থেকে ট্রেনিং পাওয়া হাতি এতটাই অভ্যস্ত হয়ে উঠে যে, সে একবার চেষ্ঠা করেও দেখে না যে ওই সামান্য পাথরটাকে টেনে নিয়ে যাওয়া যায় কিনা।

বানর ও মাছের প্রতিযোগিতা

এক বার এক বানর আর মাছের মধ্যে প্রতিযোগিতা হলো যে কে সবার আগে গাছে উঠতে পারে। ফলাফল তো সবার জানা। কিন্তু তারপরও মাছ টা অনেক চেষ্টা করলো। লাফিয়ে লাফিয়ে সে উপরে উঠার চেষ্টা করলো কিন্তু বানর তার অনেক আগেই গাছের মগডালে উঠে বসে থাকলো। মাছ টা মন খারাপ করে গাছের গোড়াতেই পড়ে থাকলো।

এর পরের প্রতিযোগিতাটা হলো পানিতে সাতার কাটার। কে কার আগে সাঁতার কেটে নদী পার হতে পারে। এইবার এর ফলাফল গেল মাছের পক্ষে। এক মুহুর্তেই নদীর ওই পাড়ে পৌছে গেল সেই মাছ। আর বানর? নদীর পাড়েই বসে থাকলো।

সব কিছু থেকেই যে কিছুনা কিছু শিখতেই হবে এমন কোনো কথা তো নাই!

The 2016 Presidential Election: Republican Presidential Candidacy and Donald Trump

Presidential run for 2016 has started. Both Democrat and Republican parties have their candidates lined up for the party nomination. The Democrat's have 8 candidates and Republican's have 17. Last week was the first Republican candidates' debate on Fox News channel. 

With everyone's surprise, Donald Trump has come out to top as Republican Presidential candidate in almost all the poll results. If you don't know who this Donald Trump is. I would say just one word for him: Psycho. Even though some people may consider him as idiot or dumb for his nonsensical talks but he shouldn't be labeled with those nonlethal adjectives. If you read his bio, you would see that he is a real estate mogul having assets worth of billions of dollars. An idiot or a dumb person can't make billion dollars. He must be an intelligent person. 

Anyway, I am not a big fan of Republican party but when I see Donald Trump at the top of the polls, any respect that I have to Republican party, diminishes sharply. I can not think of any thing but seeing Donald Trump out of this race very soon but already he has surpassed the political life that such kind of a psychopath can have in a civilized political system

Please do not start comparing him to some of our politicians, though you would find similar characters in our political landscape but I don't want to go down that line because now I believe that Bangladesh is in the state of "political coma" where everyone can see everything and hear everything but lost the ability to respond intelligently. Anyway, keep you posted

Glaciers in Maine leaves us the story of unseen

We were in Maine in this week for vacationing. We camped at Blackwoods campground for a couple of days and then enjoyed the amazing natural beauty of Maine using the free shuttle service that they provide to reduce the cars on the road and make attractions accessible to all.

When we reached at the Jordan pond, at first, my thought was, why am I here? This is just another pond and surrounding it are the Bubble Mountain and Pemetic mountain. So what's so special about it? We walked down further the shore trail and read a post where it explains how this terrain was formed hundreds of millions of years ago.The glaciers that made the surface smoother, created lakes and brought rocks (these are called: glacier erratic) from miles distance. On one of informative board at the pond explained how the difference of the mineral, pattern and color tell the scientists the story of thousands of years of glacier movement and formation of the terrain. We weren't there at that time. The scientists were't there either. But the marks and traces left behind by the glaciers on the terrains tell us what exactly happened in thousands of years ago. It's like talking in a different language and grammar. 

I have seen some people who defy the existence of a creator and claims that as we can't see or conceptualize a creator, so there's no point of believing in a creator. The problem with that kind of logic is that they are so narrowed in the use of the word of seeing or understanding that they prove themselves as an ignorant in a larger scale. It's like a French is complaining that Shakespeare written in English is a verbose garbage as because that person can't read English. 

Don't blame that you can't see or conceptualize it because of your limited knowledge on languages to read the creation that has been laid out in front of you. If you don't know the language to read it, then learn the language first before proving yourself as ignorant
